Welcome to the Bermuda Branch web page.

This area of the website is dedicated to your local branch, helping you find details about local events.

Branch events are also a great way to meet with CIArb members and other dispute resolution professionals in your area. Here you will find the most up to date information and ongoing support that's both local and relevant.

The more you engage in your local branch the more you’ll get out of your membership.

CIArb’s Bermuda Branch has been in existence since 1996 and is active in encouraging and promoting the use of Arbitration and Mediation as an alternative to traditional litigation as the means for resolving disputes.

Bermuda is a self-governing colony of the United Kingdom. It has a population of approximately 60,000 people on a land mass of 20 square miles. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 760 miles due east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Surrounded by coral reefs and the Gulf Stream, Bermuda remains a popular destination for tourists but the excellent infrastructure and the high standard of living has made it a magnet for many international companies, particularly Fortune 500 companies, which, in seeking and offshore base, require that they only associate with a jurisdiction that has a highest standards. Bermuda is also home to the world’s largest reinsurers and its name is synonymous with reinsurance in the way that Lloyd’s once was.

In this environment the branch has thrived, having a large number of members for the size of the population and a disproportionate number of CIArb fellows. The Branch operates an appointments scheme for use by any party who wishes to have an Arbitrator or Mediator, knowledgeable about the process and who will ensure that the appointment is carried out in a scrupulously fair manner in accordance with established rules appointed by a neutral body. The person chosen will be the one that the Appointments’ Committee considers to have the most suitable credentials for the nature of the dispute. Suitable neutral, comfortable locations are used throughout the City of Hamilton which includes the Bermuda Commercial Court and beyond, extending to other areas on the island.
