The CIArb “Each One, Teach One” Mentoring Program

The Ciarb UAE Branch Committee is proud to launch its second mentoring program and we want our members to get involved!

This includes the YMG mentoring program, which is described at the end of this page.

Why Mentoring?

Whether you are a seasoned practitioner, a mid-level practitioner or a beginner practitioner, mentoring is a useful way to connect, collaborate and co-create with peers. We need the support of our industry peers to continue to grow not only in arbitration but in any field of alternative dispute resolution. Mentors have the opportunity to share their experience and support the development of mentees.

While our Ciarb courses equip members with the academic knowledge, our mentoring program gives mentees a platform to ask questions, to share knowledge and to broaden skills to make them a successful dispute resolution practitioner.

How is the program structured?

The mentoring program will run on a yearly basis. The second program starts in January 2023. Deadline for submission of applications for mentors is 23 January 2023.

There will be 4-6 mentoring groups with each group consisting of 1 mentor, 1 facilitator and 4 mentees.

The Mentoring Program is geared to develop professionals in the field of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.  The program will also encourage discussion around:

  • Registration with Arbitration Centres and getting formal recognition in the Arbitration Field
  • Networking And Profile Building

  • Time Management
  • Collaborative Working

  • Promotion and Progression

  • Managing Challenging Situations and Conversations

The purpose of the Program is to develop skills necessary for participating in arbitration proceedings through knowledge sharing between mentees, mentors and facilitators.

Working in a group allows mentees to network as well as to support each other. We wish to encourage development of groups where the mentees are from different disciplines (e.g., engineers to be together with lawyers and quantity surveyors) as we think that perspectives brought from a different working environment can be of significant benefit to all participants.

Mentors will be “seasoned” senior practitioners and arbitrators. They will be recognised and established practitioners and, most importantly, eager to impart their wisdom. The role of the mentor is to provide mentees with career guidance and arbitration/alternative dispute resolution practical knowledge.

Mentees will usually be either starting out in arbitration or under the age of 40 and interested in developing their knowledge of alternative dispute resolution. We also welcome senior practitioners that have a great deal of experience and will benefit from the mentoring program.

Facilitators will be mid-level practitioners enthusiastic to participate and to facilitate the discussions and activities between the mentees and the mentors. At the same time, facilitators can share their wisdom and advice with mentees and collaborate with them on projects such as writing articles.

Term: The mentoring program will run for one year. During this time we envisage that the mentoring group will learn and evolve and gain practical insights into arbitration/ alternative dispute resolution.

The mentoring program is open only to Ciarb UAE Branch members. Members are requested to encourage their colleagues or others who are registered with the Ciarb and who would benefit from this program.

Mentoring Program 2023 Young Members Group (YMG)

The Ciarb UAE Branch invites YMG members interested in developing their knowledge and competencies in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to participate as mentees on its YMG mentoring program “Each One, Teach One”.
